Joon's Game Time.

I thought I would do something a little different, something I’ve never really tried to write about since I decided to start writing gaming reviews those few years ago. That thing is to talk about what’s happening with me in my gaming life. What am I currently playing? What am I looking forward to, those types of questions?

There were a few games that I was looking forward too at the start of 2020, however, these have now been delayed till the end of the year, games such as Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk, these we’re going to be the games that got me through the start of the year, and add to the increasing backlog of games (which I will get more into detail about later). Animal Crossing is another game that I am looking forward to checking out when it releases in March, this for me is going to be the relaxing game which I can spend some time each day sorting my island and doing whatever activities the game has to offer.

Simulation games are a big genre for me, things like Football Manager, Rollercoaster Tycoon are all very enjoyable games, so I’m looking forward to Two Point Hospital arriving at the end of February, but what’s even better is that it will be available through Xbox Games Pass from day one, so I can get to try it out straight away at launch. My wife has asked for a copy on Switch, so I’ll still be buying a copy for her to play while I’m on the Xbox version. Gaming Family FTW!

I must admit though that other than what has been mentioned, there’s nothing else really releasing in the first couple of months of the year (or even up until the E3 excitement) which I think of as a day one purchase. Which when I look at it, isn’t as bad as I thought, why you might ask? Because it will finally give me the time I need to try and get my backlog of games down. The current list of games on my Backlog are:

• -          Rage 2
• -          The Outer Worlds
• -      Red Dead Redemption 2
• -          The Witcher 3
• -          Star Wars: Fallen Jedi
• -          Ghost Recon Breakpoint
• -          Lego Marvel Avengers/ Superheroes 1&2
• -          Metro Exodus
• -          Assassins Creed Odyssey.
• -          The Division 2

Now, I have finished the story for Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which took me around 45 to 50 hours to complete, however, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and will go back to it to mop up other achievements as well as try the events such as the terminator one which recently launched. This is why I’ve left it on my list and the same with The Witcher 3, I finished the story but I’m currently playing through the DLC story.

I've recently started getting back into The Division 2, mainly because of the latest trailer that was released for the New York expansion, which looks very good indeed and I look forward to playing through that when it's released.

One thing I am trying to do which I didn’t do before was concentrate on one game, play through that and then move on, otherwise if I dot back and forth between games, I know that I won’t get any of them completed.

So, as you can see from the above, there aren’t that many games on my list, but the ones that are there, will require a fair amount of time put into them, which I guess is why the delay to a lot of the bigger games that was due to come out early 2020 is a blessing in disguise. It will give me some well needed time to get my backlog down.

There are probably more games that I need to complete, however, the ones listed above are the ones I’m going to concentrate on. It would be good to hear how other people tackle their backlogs if at all.

This is pretty much going to be my task for at least the first few months of this year, try and get this down before buying any other games. There is always the variable of Xbox Games Pass which could throw a spanner in the works with games it brings to the service, but I will deal with that if and when it happens.

Speaking of Xbox Games Pass, this is such an amazing service and I’ve been able to play games that I’ve either not been able to buy due to real-life things or games, I wouldn’t have thought to buy or had any interest in. It gives me a chance to try and broaden my gaming horizons in terms of genres I play and it really is perfect for that. There’s always times I’ve seen a game, but not really taken the plunge to buy as it didn’t appeal that much to me, but on Games Pass, I can install for free and give it a try, if I don’t like it, at least I’ve given it a go and used my subscription to its potential, and I am honestly looking forward to seeing what games get added in the future.
